Glossary

Maritime regulatory shorthand

The acronyms a fleet operator, master, or compliance officer has to live inside. Each definition explains how it touches the engine.

CII Carbon Intensity Indicator
IMO rating (A–E) measuring annual operational carbon intensity per vessel. The engine projects CII for every voyage and flags trips that move the annual rating.
EU ETS EU Emissions Trading System
Carbon market that began applying to maritime in 2024. The engine quantifies expected ETS cost for every voyage and offers a "min-emissions" optimization mode.
FuelEU Maritime FuelEU Maritime Regulation
EU regulation phasing in greenhouse-gas intensity limits for fuel used aboard. Sister regulation to EU ETS; the engine reports intensity per voyage.
ECA Emission Control Area
Geographic zones with stricter sulphur/NOx limits. Routes can be constrained to avoid ECA, force ECA transit, or balance both.
RTZ Route Exchange Format
IMO standard XML format for route exchange with ECDIS systems. The engine exports RTZ 1.1; pulls into Furuno, JRC, Wärtsilä, and other on-board systems.
ECDIS Electronic Chart Display & Information System
On-board chart system required by IMO. The engine's RTZ export is built so a master can load it directly without translation.
FOC Fuel Oil Consumption
Vessel fuel consumption measured in metric tonnes. The engine's ANN-based FOC model is trained on four years of real telemetry.
AIS Automatic Identification System
Vessel position broadcast system. Historical AIS tracks are the ground truth against which optimized routes are compared.
JIT Just-in-Time Arrival
Optimized arrival timing that hits a port's berth window — eliminating anchorage wait and demurrage.
TCE Time Charter Equivalent
Daily earnings metric for chartered vessels. Used to compare voyages and optimization modes on revenue-relevant terms.
